Sir David Lawrence Gregg
Established in 1943, IBG Legal has grown into a leading real estate law firm, embodying a legacy of professionalism and integrity that spans over four generations. The roots of IBG Legal lie in the rich lineage of the Gregg and Benet families, whose influence and accomplishments shaped the firm’s values and direction.

Our story begins with David Lawrence Gregg (1819-1868), an American diplomat and politician whose career spanned key roles such as U.S. minister to Hawaii. His influence extended to Mexico through a pivotal marriage that linked the Gregg family with the Allende family, an iconic lineage in Mexico’s fight for independence. This unique connection laid the foundation for a legacy that would see the Gregg family navigate political and legal landscapes across borders.
From this illustrious ancestry, Juan Francisco Gregg Noble, David’s direct descendant, established IBG Legal in downtown Mexico City’s “El Centro.” With his European education and legal prowess, Juan Francisco built the firm on principles of precision, trust, and service excellence. His daughter, Patricia Gregg Leurette, joined the firm in the 1980s, bringing with her an expertise in real estate law and a refined approach that modernized IBG Legal’s operations. Under her leadership, the firm expanded, attracting a prestigious clientele of developers and investors.

The legacy of leadership and innovation continued with Enrique Benet Gregg, Patricia’s son and the third generation to lead the firm. With a forward-thinking strategy, Enrique established IBG Legal’s presence in the Riviera Maya, responding to the growing demand in the region’s real estate market. His background in law and business, honed through studies at ITAM (Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México), Sorbonne University, and Cornell University, has positioned the firm as a trusted advisor in navigating complex transactions and developing innovative legal strategies.

IBG Legal’s narrative is also enriched by the story of Enrique’s other grandfather, Enric Benet Massanés, a prominent figure during the Spanish Civil War and a successful businessman in Spain and Mexico. After fleeing Spain in exile due to the Franco regime, Enric reestablished himself in Mexico, founding successful ventures such as Dr. Andreu’s medical laboratories. His contributions to business and his dedication to family values resonate deeply in the culture of IBG Legal today.
